USANA @ 20: The Essentials

So it’s no wonder that Dr. Wentz has been studying cells for nearly half a century. Through his research, he realized that when we provide cells with the right nutrients, they, in turn, support good health. And this basic building block of knowledge led Dr. Wentz to develop our flagship product: the USANA® Essentials™.

But just because the Essentials was originally created 20 years ago doesn’t mean USANA has stuck with the same formula — which was revolutionary back in 1992. The Essentials now features Olivol® — Olive Fruit Extract, and USANA’s scientists continue to update the formula as new science is uncovered about nutritional supplements.

One of the great features about the Essentials is that it features two separate vitamin and mineral supplements: Mega Antioxidant and Chelated Mineral. You get a top-rated daily vitamin and antioxidant supplement and a mineral supplement all in one pack. Now that’s an amazing duo!

USANA Receives Record-Breaking Recognition

Best of State—the name says it all. USANA’s products have not only been named the best of state, but so far this year, we have also received 10 AVA Awards, six 2011 Multi-Level Marketing (MLM) Insider Awards, 14 Communicator Awards, and much more.

That’s right. We’ve taken the “you name it, we win it” slogan to a whole new level this year. In just four months we received 43 awards, nearly as many as the record-breaking 45 accolades we took home last year. These awards not only boost the validity of our high-quality products, but also highlight the strengths of various departments within the company.

There’s not enough space here to list them all, so here are a few of the awards we’re most proud of:

Best of State
To date this year, USANA has received four Best of State awards, recognizing Rev3 Energy®, HealthPak™, MyHealthPak™, and our Research & Development department as the most outstanding nominees in their respective divisions in the state of Utah.

AVA Awards
The AVA Awards recognize the evolving role technology plays in the transfer of information, and honor excellence in digital evolution. USANA was presented with 10 AVA Awards for video productions, web design, and documentaries—once again proving that we are on the cutting edge.

MLM Insider Awards
MLM Insider Online is the watchdog publication of multi-level marketing companies. Each year it hosts a survey to identify the best in the industry. USANA snagged six awards from the 2011 survey, naming us the number one company in network marketing, best nutritional company, best weight-loss company, and the company with the best compensation plan.

Telly Awards
The Telly Awards support creativity by honoring the finest film and video productions, locally and around the world. In 2011, the Telly Awards received more than 11,000 entries, and USANA rose to the top and claimed five awards—one silver and four bronze—for our The Healthy Home and WTA video clips.

Service Awards
Our Customer Service department always takes service to the next level, and their efforts were recently recognized with a Customer Service Department of the Year Stevie Award. USANA also received a Communitas Award, which acknowledges our commitment to go above and beyond in serving our employees, community, and environment.

Communicator Awards
USANA’s Communications group raised the bar a little higher when it was recognized with an impressive 14 Communicator Awards. This prestigious international awards program recognizes big ideas in marketing and communications and honors the work that transcends innovation and makes a lasting impact.

The list could go on, but let’s suffice it to say that USANA is moving ahead at an incredible rate and growing stronger with every award. Thanks to you and our world-class products, we have broken all our previous records and continue to press forward as leaders in the direct-selling industry.

WBO says Pacquiao won; Manny wants rematch

The special five-man panel tasked by World Boxing Organization (WBO) president Francisco "Paco" Valcarcel to review the controversial Manny Pacquiao-Timothy Bradley WBO welterweight title fight has reached the conclusion that the Filipino did indeed win the June 9 bout.

According to RingTV, all five members of the panel reviewed the bout and all scored it in favor of the Filipino ring icon. Two judges scored it 117-111, while the other three scored it 118-110, 116-112, and 115-113.

Bradley won Pacquiao's welterweight belt via a split decision, with two judges scoring it 115-113 for the American and a third scoring it 115-113 for Pacquiao. The decision sparked massive outrage within the boxing community and even had two United States senators pushing for the creation of a national boxing commission to regulate the sport, prompting Valcarcel to order a review.

The panel's findings generally reflect the sentiment of boxing observers who were at ringside, almost all of whom had Pacquiao winning by various margins. Top Rank head Bob Arum, who promotes both fighters and who called for an investigation of the bout, called the findings a "Solomon-like conclusion".
Despite the panel's findings, WBO rules cannot allow the decision to be overturned. The most the boxing body can do, according to Valcarcel, is to order a rematch, something Arum has recently said he is no longer keen on doing.
But Pacquiao, reacting to the findings, said Thursday that he now wants a rematch. He added that he hopes Bradley won't give up the belt, as some have been suggesting, presumably because he wants to win it back fair and square. Interviewed on local television, Pacquiao also said he was pleased with the WBO's findings, saying he hoped it would restore the public's faith in boxing.

Boy Abunda on Dado Banatao

Earlier, as i watched a late saturday night show of Kuya Germs "Walang Tulugan", my attention was struck as i swithed to Kapamilya channel. Boy Abunda's late night show "The Bottomline" was to interview a Filipino named as "Bill Gates of the Philippines".

And i was amazed on his journey to success. And his experience and expertise was obvoiusly shown on how he managed to answer all the questions of experts of different sectors of business community faciltated by Mr. Boy Abunda himself.

I can't remember all the questions but here's one question that sinked in my mind:
Q: What can you say about the greediness of capitalism?

A: I think people mistake being successful and have the necessary financial rewards.. associate that with greed is totally wrong.. and one thing that i always comment on is that i wish people will actually see how hard that person worked to get there. It is not easy unless, it is inherited. I mean those guys worked for it and they got those options because they were good, they were hired, they were given that because they were leaders on their field. THEY DESERVED IT!!!

And here's the final message of Dado as the show ended:
"Stick to what you believe in.. There are very few things that we will die for.. And standing by them, is the true measure of character"

And here's a quote that Dado said to Boy on backstage and now one of my favorite:
"In this modern world, only the paranoid can survive"

Dado Banatao - My new idol

Banatao (born May 23, 1946, Iguig, Cagayan, Philippines), popularly known by his nickname Dado, is a Filipino entrepreneur and engineer working in the high-tech industry. A three-time start-up veteran, he co-founded Mostron (motherboards), Chips and Technologies (PC chip sets, eventually acquired by Intel), and S3 Graphics (originally 2D graphics chips, later formed a joint venture with VIA Technologies).

On April 4, 2009, he received an honoris causa in Doctor of Technology in recognition of his
outstanding contribution to the computer industry conferred by the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology after speaking at the 39th Commencement Exercises in Iligan City, Philippines.

If you’re looking for the Filipino version of Bill Gates, one name comes to mind: Diosdado (Dado) Banatao. Both come from a technical background, introduced technologies that transformed the computer industry, and built hugely successful companies from the ground up. Gates may be the co-founder of the biggest software company in the world and the richest man in the planet, but Banatao might just have a better track record as an innovator and entrepreneur.

Banatao is widely considered a true Silicon Valley visionary. As an engineer, he is credited with developing several key technologies. His new chip set design produced ten times more power at a thousandth of the cost, ushering in the era of the PC - personal computer, making it more powerful and at the same time affordable to millions of people worldwide.

He also invented a new graphics accelerator that is now being used in nine out of ten PC’s. Moreover, he developed the first Ethernet controller chip that enabled computers to link up to and communicate with one another, hastening the spread of networking computing.

But Banatao is not just a prolific inventor, he’s also an entrepreneur. He co-founded three technology startup companies: Mostron, which made motherboards; Chips and Technologieswhich developed chip sets; and S3 which produced graphics chips. In 1997, he was honored with the prestigious “Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award” by Ernst & Young, Inc. Magazine and Merrill Lynch Business Financial Services. Forbes Magazine has often put him on its “Midas List.”

Today, Banatao has proven to be a master inventor and venture capitalist as well. He is one of the few venture capitalists or VCs, that were veteran entrepreneurs. That sets him apart from many other VCs who never ran a business. As the founder and managing partner of Tallwood Venture Capital, he invests, oversees, and sells several technology companies, including Cyras Systems, acquired by Ciena; Newport Communications, acquired by Broadcom; Acclaim Communications, acquired by Level One; Stream Machine, acquired by Cirrus Logic; Marvell Technology Group and New Moon Software.
